The Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has charged two people in connection to a firearms investigation that involved an increased police presence in the 100 block of Avenue J South Tuesday afternoon.
Police says officers saw a suspect leave a home in the area two hours earlier carrying a bag, he got into a taxi and a traffic stop was initiated. Police allege a 16 year old male had a sawed off rifle in the bag along with ammunition. He was arrested without incident.
A woman was seen exiting the same home and was leaving the area in a vehicle when another traffic stop was initiated. A 31 year old woman was allegedly carrying ammunition on her person.
With assistance from the Tactical Support Unit a search warrant was executed on the home and more ammunition was seized.
The woman and the teen are facing a variety of weapons charges. Traffic restrictions in the area were lifted around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
