The City of Saskatoon will be introducing the use of a gate for the parking lot at Rotary Park.
The move is an attempt to try and mitigate noise at the park which has been brought to the attention of the City by local residents. During Monday’s regular council meeting, Mayor Charlie Clark and his council voted in favour having the washrooms at the park remain open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. which will differ from the gate hours which will see the parking close from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. once it’s complete.
Currently, there are gates in use at both the Weir and at Gabriel Dumont Park which operate from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the warmer months.
Ward 6 City Councillor Cynthia Block asked administration is the hours for the gate would disrupt any clubs or activities that utilize the park.
Angela Gardiner, the City’s General Manager of Utilities and Environment says they have gone back and reviewed the historical special events that have taken place at Rotary Park and the majority of the events operate within the hours the parking lot will be open.
It’s expected the gate will be completed within the next week and a half.
