British Columbia Highway Patrol say that there were 16 students visiting from Quebec when the BC Transit bus they were on collided with a Purolator courier cube van on Highway 3A near Castlegar.

An 18 year old student passenger is described as being in grave condition on life support. She was sitting next to the window where the van hit the bus.

It happened just after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The students were part of a program at Selkirk College in B.C. Police say fellow students attempted life saving first aid and she was taken to Kelowna General Hospital.

B.C. Highway Patrol in Nelson are trying to determine why the courier driver crossed over the center line and they are looking for anyone, including anyone with dashboard camera video of pre-collision driving on that stretch of highway. Video from the BC Transit bus showed three vehicles, a blue 2 door coupe, a silver SUV, and an older grey Pathfinder, driving behind the courier driver who may have specific information.
