A third person has been arrested and RCMP are looking for one more in connection to an investigation into a firearms incident last month which prompted an emergency alert in La Ronge and Air Ronge. A gun was shot at police and multiple people were arrested.
On July 5th, RCMP received a tip about where to find 36 year old Allan Sanderson. He was found hiding under a blanket in the back seat of a vehicle parked at a business on Highway 2 in La Ronge. Police say an illegally modified loaded firearm was seized during a search of the vehicle.
This all stems back to June 19th when around 11:30 in the morning, La Ronge officers were conducting patrols in the community and say officers saw a car speed by, so they initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued on and turned into a driveway. The driver fled and one RCMP officer followed him on foot. Police report the second officer was outside the police truck when a second male got out of the car with a firearm and it’s alleged he discharged it in the direction of the vehicle and the officer. The officer returned fire.
Terrance Daigneault and Nikeyta Bradfield were arrested on June 22nd. Daigneault’s charges include two counts of attempted murder. Bradfield is charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to attempted murder with a firearm.
“La Ronge RCMP is very grateful for all the assistance from the community we’ve received – from following police direction during the incident on June 19 to passing along information that has helped progress the investigation,” says La Ronge RCMP Sgt. Brent Nicol. “Our community is safer when we have this productive, collaborative relationship between residents and police.”
The RCMP are still looking for 22 year old Celine Charles, who is charged with one count of obstruction from the June 19th incident.
