Lat month’s seasonally adjusted employment numbers from Statistics Canada at 577,800, exceeded the pre-COVID February of 2020 employment level of 574,100. A news release from the province highlights that Saskatchewan added 22,300 jobs in June, an increase of 3.9 per cent from last June, and all of the growth was in full-time jobs. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.9 per cent, the second lowest among the provinces, and down from 6.6 per cent a year ago. The national average was 4.9 per cent.
Immigration and Career Training Minister, Jeremy Harrison, says, “Our government will continue to support the job creators and workers to accelerate our economic growth.” Major year-over-year employment gains were reported for healthcare, and social assistance up 8,200 jobs, construction up 4,000 jobs, accommodation and food services, up 3,400 jobs. Over the same period, the private sector was up 19,000 jobs (+5.8 per cent), female employment increased by 11,300 jobs (+4.3 per cent), and youth (aged 15-24) employment was up by 6,000 jobs (+7.1 per cent).
