The federal funding for health care will be front and centre during the meeting of Canada’s Premiers today (Mon) and tomorrow in Victoria. Premier Scott Moe says all 13 Premiers have a unanimous ask in front of the Canadian government to correct a wrong of successive governments in not paying enough into the federal health transfer fund.
Moe adds that health care will be one of the big issues discussed, along with affordability issues and economic recovery.
Chair of the Council of the Federation, British Columbia’s Premier John Horgan, says, “The problems Canadians experienced in accessing health care services during the pandemic have intensified strains in our health systems, that will continue unless the federal government significantly increases its share of the costs of health care. Canadians must have the confidence that their health care systems will provide the services they need. There can be no further delay in having this vital conversation with the federal government.”
