There were 124 RCMP calls for service at Country Thunder music festival from Wednesday at 7 a.m. to Monday at 7 a.m., and that’s not including traffic violations. Staff Sgt. Craig Cleary of Saskatchewan RCMP’s South District says the calls for service include reports of disturbing the peace, lost and stolen items, missing person reports, liquor act offences, assault and everything in between.
Thirty-one people were arrested and held by police for various offences. Among the calls for service were three mental health calls, including an individual at or in the creek, identity fraud when someone provided a false name during a Controlled Drug and Substances Act investigation, six people reported missing who were later found, a person impersonating a police officer, and 14 liquor act offences, including two youth being charged.
While Saskatchewan RCMP were patrolling the Country Thunder music festival, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan took care of the road safety aspect in the Craven, Lumsden and Regina Beach areas on highways and gravel roads. Cst. Michel Hachey of CTSS Saskatchewan says officers issued 55 tickets and one 72 hour license suspension. There were also 162 warnings issued.
Of the 55 tickets, 13 were for speeding, one was for going over 60 km/h when passing an a vehicle when emergency lights were one, and another was for exceeding 60 when passing a tow truck with its amber lights on. There were six unregistered vehicles, three tickets for using a cell phone while driving, one learner driving unaccompanied and another without a valid driver’s license. A ticket was also issued for loading or driving a vehicle with cargo that dropped or was likely to drop on a public highway. RCMP say in this case, a pallet dropped off a trailer onto the highway and struck two vehicles.
