It’s been two years, but NASCAR racing is finally back in Saskatoon as the Pinty’s Series makes a stop at the Sutherland Automotive Speedway. The race tonight will feature 23 cars for two back to back 125 lap races.
The two races will feature a couple of Saskatchewan drivers, Shantel Kalika and Matt Shirley. Kalika (33) who is an experienced NASCAR driver will be starting her second race of the year and is in her fourth year of racing on the NASCAR Pinty’s series. Shirley on the other hand is suiting up for his first start on the Pinty’s series. The 27-year-old is keeping the racing legacy alive in the Shirley family as his father Dan drove in the Pinty’s series back in 2011 and 2012.
This will also be the first time that 18-year-old, Grimsby Ontario native Treyten Lapcevich (LAPS-Vich) will be on the track in Saskatoon. Lapcevich (18) was the 2021 Jostens Rookie of the Year at the age of 17 and became the second youngest recipient in history to win it. This is his second full year on the NASCAR Pinty’s series as a driver. Currently he ranks eighth in the standing with four top ten finishes, two top five and one victory in six races this season.
For Quebec native, NASCAR veteran, LP Dumoulin, this is just another day in the office as he has now started over 120 Pinty’s series races. Dumoulin is the raining series champion from 2021 and is a three time champion life-time. He currently sits 4th in the standings this season and is looking to make a jump with a good performance tonight.
Tickets for the race tonight can be purchased at the gate. General admission will be $55.00 with child tickets (15 and under) being $25.00. Seats will be first come first serve as there is no seat allocation to your ticket. Food and beverage services will be open.
The race gets underway starting at 6:00pm CST with the second race following immediately after.
NASCAR Pinty’s series is the premier motorsports division of Canada, formerly known as the CASCAR Super series.
