Saskatchewan residents could face a tough winter again this coming year.
The editor of the Farmers Almanac, Peter Geiger, says weather will turn cold in late fall and stay like that for months. Geiger says the first storm could come as early as October.
He says the coming winter will be bitterly cold with heavy snowfall across the Canadian prairies.
The almanac forecast is based on a formula developed in the 1800’s by the first editor of the Farmer’s Almanac. It involves evaluating sunspot activity, planet positions and the effect the moon has on the earth. Geiger says in 206 editions they have only had seven people compile the forecast so consistency is also a factor.
Geiger calls the prairies a hibernation zone this winter. The almanac is available online.
