A 35 year old man has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection to charges laid in a historical sexual assault investigation. The case has been under a publication ban but two counts of sexual exploitation were laid against a 35 year old man in November of 2021.
In December 2019, a report was made to the Saskatoon Police Service regarding allegations of historical sexual assault and one of the complaints involved a woman who was 16 years old at the time of the offense. Police say the victim and the accused were known to each other through their affiliation with a Saskatoon faith-based organization.
The accused was sentenced on Tuesday in Saskatoon court.
The Police Service explains that sexual abuse and exploitation occurs when a child has been or is likely to be exposed to harmful interaction for a sexual purpose by a parent, caretaker, or any person in a position of trust or authority over the young person.
