Saturday started off as a hot and sunny summer day in Saskatoon and central Saskatchewan but that quickly changed in the late afternoon when storms brought rain, lightning and hail.
Eric Dykes, a meteorologist with Environment Canada breaks down what communities saw the largest hail.
“The largest hail that we saw was in Barrier Lake, which I believe is east of Saskatoon where there was tennis ball sized hail that actually cracked windshields at around 5:55 last night (sat). Otherwise, most other hail was smaller but still quite large, toonie sized hail in Warman, north of town around 5:02.”
There were also reports of toonie sized in Burgis at 8:55.
The same system also brought some active weather to the Edmonton area last night (sat) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders – Edmonton Elks game being delayed for a brief period due to lightning in the area.
