Kyrell Sopotyk finished third in the 1500 metre Wheelchair event at the national competition in St. Catherines, Ontario on Wednesday.
Sopotyk is a relative rookie in wheelchair sports having trained and competed for only one year. The former Kamloops Blazer hockey player fractured his T5 vertebrae in a devastating snowboarding accident near North Battleford on January 22, 2021.
Sopotyk competes in Saskatoon on the Cyclones Track and Field Club Team. He is also a member of the 2022 Wheelchair Basketball Junior National All Star Team.
Saskatchewan has 14 medals at the Canada Summer Games—-seven silver and seven bronze.
