Canada’s Chief Medical Health Officer says COVID-19 case counts continue to decline, with many parts of the country at, or past the peak, of the current wave. Dr. Theresa Tam notes however that some regional variability in disease and severity trends is being observed. “Including in wastewater signals and hospitalization trends”. The provincial government’s COVID-19 monthly report released yesterday indicates hospitalizations and ICU admissions have increased compared to the month previous, and there were 27 deaths as compared to 22 in July. Dr. Tam says recent modeling shows infection rates in Ontario and Quebec, where the majority of cases are, is slowing down, but she cautions that across Canada, another wave of the virus is possible.
As for the monkeypox outbreak, Dr. Tam says there are 1,168 confirmed cases, although the rate of infection has started to slow.
New Brunswick has had its first confirmed case and Saskatchewan has three. (CJGX)
