The honour goes to 19-year old Savannah Sutherland from Borden who earned the gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles. Sutherland attends the University of Michigan and also captured a bronze medal at the 2021 World U20 Championship.
“Savannah is an elite athlete,” said her coach Harvey Weber. “She has represented Canada in the World U20 Championships for the past two years. She knows how to put her game face on and pull off an incredible performance.”
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Pepper Howe from Saskatoon won a bronze Saturday in an early morning competition at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course. She medaled in the Single Scull Female event. Pepper Howe rows with the Saskatoon Rowing Club.
Pepper Howe, Lauren Matai, Megan Kish, all from Saskatoon, and Shelby Lane of Lloydminster won a Silver medal in the quadruple sculls female team race.
In the 5000m Female race Saturday morning Team Sask won Gold and Silver. Jasmine Fehr of Saskatoon finished first with teammate Jenna McFadyen from Waseca behind her for second.
Bradyn Giraudier, a 24-year-old from Assiniboia, has won Silver in the Men’s Special Olympic 200m event that took place at Canada Games Park Saturday morning. He also won another silver Friday in the 100 m. Giraudier was part of Team Sask for the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019 and the Canada Summer Games in 2017.
