Smoke from wildfires has moved into an area mainly in the west central part of Saskatchewan stretching from North Battleford and Lloydminster north to Buffalo Narrows and east as far as Big River/Debden resulting in poor air quality. Some areas in the vicinity of the fires could see smoke persist for the next few days.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says as of 5 this afternoon (Mon), there are 34 wildfires in the province and four are not contained, four have crews protecting property and for the other 26, they are under ongoing assessment. One of the fires that isn’t contained is the Dougall fire northwest of Lac La Ronge and another is the Richard fire northeast of Richard Lake. Creighton and Denare Beach are about 39 kilometres away from the fire which has grown to almost 85-hundred hectares in size. Flin Flon, Manitoba is also in close proximity.
There have been 360 wildfires so far this year and the five year average is 334.
