The July Traffic Safety Spotlight shone its light on impaired driving and law enforcement agencies across the province, combined, pulled over 497 impaired drivers.
There 292 drivers who were charged with Criminal Code offences. It is the highest number of impaired drivers who have been nabbed in a single month so far this year.
In August the traffic spotlight is distracted driving. Last month there were 581 instances of distracted driving reported by police and 454 were for using a mobile device behind the wheel.
SGI says distracted driving counts for approximately 1-in-5 vehicular crashes with injury.
In addition SGI reminds Saskatchewan drivers that harvest is underway so keep your eyes open for slower moving farm equipment.
Other numbers of note from the July spotlight include 5,411 tickets issued for speeding or aggressive driving and 375 for not wearing a seatbelt or having a child improperly restrained.
