The Minister of Education has cancelled Grace Christian School’s Certificate of Registration, which means no school for the students to attend. As well, earlier this month, Forest Grove Community Church terminated its lease contract with the school, because of its connections to allegations of physical, sexual and psychological abuse at the former Christian Centre Academy, now known as Legacy Christian Academy in Lawson Heights.
A statement from the Ministry says, “On August 24th, Administrator Dave Derksen and a Ministry of Education official met with the Director of Grace Christian School. The Director refused to cooperate with the administrator appointed to take on the management and operations of the school. Therefore, the Minister of Education cancelled Grace Christian School’s Certification of Registration in the public interest as the Director is a named defendant in the current litigation”. The statement says the Ministry understands the situation has created uncertainty, and Derksen will help families to find an alternative school in time for the school year.
The three schools where the provincial government appointed administrators are Grace Christian Academy and Legacy Christian Academy in Saskatoon and Regent Academy in Prince Albert. Some former students have launched a class action lawsuit and complaints have been filed with the Saskatoon Police Service. Police have presented the file to Crown prosecutors to consider charges.
