The Saskatoon Fire Department rescued three people paddling on the river south of the city.
The call came in at 6:30 Saturday evening when a storm with high winds and lightning forced the three to a sand bar where they were stranded.
The rescue boat was launched from the Broadway emergency boat launch and en route it became stuck on a sand bar. A pin was sent via cell phone to the Battalion Chief and a second rescue boat was dispatched to the Riverside golf course where the three individuals were located on the river and rescued. They were evaluated by firefighter paramedics and didn’t require medical treatment.
The Saskatoon Fire Department thanks the Riverside Golf and Country Club for the assistance from staff and equipment and note that their fire fighters regularly train on the river for rescues just like the situation which arose Saturday and took over three hours to conclude.
