A Sunday night car chase ended up with Saskatoon Police arresting a 35-year-old man for drug possession, dangerous driving – and more!
At about 10:50 p.m. on August 28, patrol officers tried to stop a suspiciously-driven Cadillac Escalade in the 300 block of 4th Avenue North. The driver attempted to flee, heading eastbound over the University Bridge where it caused a collision at Hospital Drive and College Drive. A tire deflation device was successfully utilized shortly thereafter, further eastbound on College. However, the driver wasn’t done – heading back into downtown, while the Air Support Unit monitored his movement, until the vehicle struck construction barricades at 26th Street East and 4th Avenue North. The driver fled the vehicle and ran into a backyard in the 500 block of 4th Avenue North where he discarded a backpack. Officers arrested the male suspect in the home of that backyard and found that, between what was on his person and in the backpack, totaled 57 grams of fentanyl, 83 grams of methamphetamine, one-and-a-half grams of cocaine, 950 dollars in cash and drug paraphernalia. In addition to possession of the various kinds of drugs, possession of proceeds of crime and evade police, the man is also charged with driving while prohibited and breach of conditions.
