The Saskatchewan School Boards’ Association has proclaimed Thursday as Provincial Students Day.
The S-S-B-A has done this annually since 2010 in response to a resolution passed by provincial trustees at the S-S-B-A’s 2009 annual general meeting. Provincial Students Day is usually proclaimed for the first Tuesday in September, but was moved this year to coincide with the change in school-year start. Many schools in the province are starting Thursday, with some exceptions. The Government of Saskatchewan proclaims Provincial Students Day each year, at the request of the S-S-B-A, with the intent of reinforcing the message of care and concern for students going to and from school – helping to ensure that safety is the primary consideration for students, families and communities. That especially goes for motorists driving in and around school zones.
