A new summer peak electricity record has been set. SaskPower says the peak was at 5:14 yesterday afternoon as a heatwave settled in around the province. The peak was 3,597 megawatts, which breaks the record set on July 13th of 3,551 megawatts.
SaskPower says with high temperatures expected to continue, there could possibly be another summer record breaker yet. SaskPower’s Vice-President of Transmission and Industrial Services, Kory Hayko, says extreme heat drives up electricity consumption and higher peaks are a sign of the growing demand for power in Saskatchewan.
