As you are changing the calendar to September, a reminder that you can resume pruning elm trees again. Each year, provincial regulations prohibit elm tree pruning from the beginning of April through the end of August. That is the period when the elm bark beetle is most active and fresh cuts to the tree attract the insect.
Regular pruning keeps trees healthy and less vulnerable to all types of disease. A reminder that it is illegal to transport or storm elm firewood in Saskatchewan. Dispose of elm wood by burning or burying it in a location approved by your local municipality.
