The FSIN is working with the RCMP to monitor inappropriate and culturally insensitive comments and will urge accountability for those who may cause further damage to the already grieving. A news release from the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is in response to what Chief Bobby Cameron calls uncompassionate comments from the non-Indigenous community after the stabbing attacks on the James Smith Cree Nation and in the Village of Weldon.
He says, “Hurtful and ignorant comments on any media is considered culturally insensitive and racist,” and he suggests that instead, together, we can support those affected in their healing journeys. Chief Cameron adds that now that Myles Sanderson is no longer a risk to their safety, the families and people whose lives have been altered forever can now take comfort and breathe a sigh of relief, and begin the lengthy process of healing through culture, spirituality and other denominations.
