As a constitutional monarchy, King Charles the Third addressed lawmakers in the British Parliament earlier today where he told members of the House of Commons and House of Lords he would follow his late mother Queen Elizabeth the Second in upholding “the precious principles of constitutional governance.”
He and his wife Queen Consort Camilla are now on their way to Edinburgh where Charles will accompany his late mother’s coffin through the streets of the Scottish capital from the royal Palace of Holyroodhouse to St. Giles’ Cathedral.
The first members of the public will have the chance to pay respects to the late queen when the monarch’s coffin lies at rest there until tomorrow. After which it will be accompanied by the Queen’s daughter Princess Anne when flown to London to lie in state for four days at Westminster Hall.
The Queen’s lying in state will end next Monday, September 19th, and the coffin will be taken in procession to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral.
Following the funeral, the coffin will travel in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch. It will then travel to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Chapel where a committal service will take place.
