The Fire Investigator says a fire on Wellman Crescent in Saskatoon’s Stonebridge neighbourhood was accidental.
The fire was was caused by internal heating from oil soaked rags used for staining which ignited. Construction material in the area of the rags caught fire as well.
Fire officials say the sprinkler system did as intended and kept the fire small on the second floor of a commercial building.
No one was injured in the fire and the damage estimate is $10,000.
The Saskatoon Fire Department was called out at 5:14 p.m. on Sunday after getting a call from an alarm monitoring company that an alarm had gone off at a building in Stonebridge.
When crews arrived, the fire alarm was ringing and there was water flowing from the automatic sprinkler on the second floor. There was also smoke visible on the second floor. A fire was reported as extinguished at 5:41 p.m.
