The Saskatoon Police Service says their Air Support Unit was pivotal in making several arrests already this week.
Monday night around 9:15 p.m. police tried to make a traffic stop near the intersection of Bedford Road and Avenue J North and officers say the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed so the Air Support Unit took over tracking the SUV heading west out of the city where occupants allegedly threw a shotgun from the vehicle.
The vehicle then ran out of gas after pulling into a farmyard about 40 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon. Four people inside the SUV were arrested and police confirmed the vehicle was stolen earlier that morning.
A 36-year-old man faces charges of Dangerous Driving, Evading Police, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited and Breach of Conditions. A 32-year-old man, 29-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman face charges of Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000. The 32-year-old man and 22-year-old woman are also charged with Breach of Conditions.
And this morning (weds) around 2:45 a.m., the Saskatoon Police Service says officers tried to make a traffic stop near the intersection of Alberta Avenue and 33rd Street East but the vehicle fled. It was located a short time later by officers in the air who saw it stop in the 1600 block of Avenue C North where the driver took off on foot. The Canine Unit was able to track a suspect. Police seized a bag with an imitation handgun inside and 31 year old man is facing various weapons charges as well as charges for Dangerous Driving and Evading Police.
