The medical profession keeps saying it and the latest provincial COVID-19 Integrated Epidemiology Situation Report shows that the novel coronavirus isn’t going away.
In fact, most key numbers from the August 14-September 10 update are up from the previous month. Only the number of deaths and number of outbreaks in the latest reporting period was down. There were 25 deaths and 41 confirmed outbreaks from August 14-September 10 compared to 27 fatalities and 46 outbreaks between July 17-August 13. Otherwise, there were 1,932 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan or 483 per week. 92.5 per cent of the new cases are of the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant. There were 594 hospital admissions, including 38 infections being admitted to an I-C-U. All of those figures are more than the previous month. The latest report also says that 45.3 per cent of the provincial eligible population has received at least three vaccine doses.
