The Regina Police Service says a city resident was driven to the edge of the city and sexually assaulted.
Around 2:40 a.m. a woman coming out of a business Saturday morning entered a vehicle in a line of taxis and Uber rides in the 2200 block of Dewdney. She asked a man, who she didn’t know, to take her to a certain address.
The suspect driver took her away from the address, to a place near Pinkie Road where the driver sexually assaulted the victim. She was then driven to the address she provided and dropped off.
The Regina Police Service is issuing this advisory to assist in the investigation and say they commend the victim for having the courage to report the crime. Police are also issuing this information to caution those who take taxis or use ride sharing options. When possible, book the ride with an app or by phone and confirm your name with the driver before entering a vehicle. Ask the driver for credentials or identification and make a safety plan if you’re travelling alone. Ensure the vehicle has a visible meter that is tracking the cost of the ride.
