For the second straight Friday, the Saskatoon Blades scored more goals into the one net than the Raiders did at the Art Hauser Centre – only this time, the victory was worth two points in the standings for the Bridge City Bunch!
Egor Sidorov’s (pictured) second goal broke a 2-2 tie at 7:57 of the third period and the Blue and Gold went on to record their fourth season-opening triumph in the last five years – all of which were played on the road. All seven goals in the game were scored into the net in the east end of the rink. The previous Friday, all seven goals were scored into the net in the west end of the rink as the Blades out-lasted the Raiders 4-3 in overtime in the pre-season. On Friday, Saskatoon led 2-0 after the first period. Captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere scored the first goal of the 2022-23 W-H-L regular-season while Sidorov tallied before the period ended. When they changed ends for the second frame, P-A got a 4-on-4 goal from Trevor Thurston and a power play marker from fellow defenceman Terrell Goldsmith. After Sidorov broke the tie in the third stanza, when the teams changed ends for a second time, Bridge City Bunch blue-liner Charlie Wright scored on a screen shot late in the game, followed 20 seconds later by an empty net tally from Vaughn Watterodt. Trevor Wong and Brandon Lisowsky for the Bridge City Bunch, along with Prince Albert forward Sloan Stanick, each had two assists in the game. Ethan Chadwick stopped 21 shots for the goaltending victory as the Blades out-shot the Raiders 31-23, in front of 2,798 fans in P-A. The same teams play Saturday at 7 p.m. at SaskTel Centre with CJWW’s broadcast at 6:45. Following is the CJWW post-game show interview with Saskatoon head coach Brennan Sonne, audio highlights of the game and the official game summary, courtesy the W-H-L…..
