The polls are open today (Mon) from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Saskatoon Meewasin byelection, after five days of advance polls last week. Former NDP Leader Ryan Meili announced he would be stepped down as leader in February and then in the spring announced that he would also be resigning as MLA for Saskatoon Meewasin.

There are 12,292 registered voters in the constituency. Two-hundred-seventy vote by mail applications were received. That’s compared to 1,504 in the 2020 general election.

Tim Kydd with Elections Saskatchewan says results will begin trickling in by around 9 tonight. He notes that ballots from advance polls aren’t counted ahead of time for security reasons. They will be opened after 8, just like the votes received today (Mon).

if you are voting today, you will need to bring along identification and Kydd advises it’s a good idea to bring your voter information card with you, which you should have received in the mail. It will tell you which polling station you should go to. The vote by mail ballots will be counted on Wednesday and the final count on October 8th includes ballots cast in hospitals.
