STARS is celebrating ten years of service in Saskatchewan—and it is receiving a big anniversary gift from the five provincial Crown Corporations.
In a new funding agreement announced in Regina, the charitable air ambulance service will receive a total of $10 million over the next five years. Each Crown Corporation (SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SGI and Crown Investments Corporation) will contribute $2 million.
STARS has bases in Saskatoon and Regina—operating 24 hours a day, transporting sick and injured patients via helicopter from rural and remote areas.
Since 2012, STARS has carried out more than 9,200 missions to over 500 locations around the province.
In January 2021, the Government of Saskatchewan renewed a 10-year contract with STARS to continue to fund 50 per cent of STARS air ambulance operations. As well, the Government committed to provide $13 million in a fundraising campaign to purchase one new helicopter
