British Columbia RCMP say the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been deployed and will investigate the death of an officer while answering a call on Tuesday.
Thirty-one-year-old Shaelyn Yang was fatally stabbed at a park in Burnaby. The suspect was subsequently shot and is in hospital.
Five police officers have been slain in as many weeks in Canada. Constables Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell in Innisfil, Ontario; Toronto Constable Andrew Hong who was shot while on his lunch break and Constable Travis Gillespie of York, Ontario was killed in a head-on crash while driving to work. The other driver is charged with impaired driving causing death.

While Shaelyn Yang’s death is investigated, a concurrent investigation will take place by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia into the actions of police.
