SGI says while their spotlight focused on school zones in September it led to 4,887 speeders being ticketed.
And 195 of those were in school zones.
Speeding tickets in a school zone are especially costly. If you are caught driving 20 km/h over the speed limit it’s a $310 ticket and three demerits.
Ten drivers in school zones also receved tickets, at $230 a-piece, for failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.
Other results from September include 399 impaired driving offences, including 247 Criminal Code violations; 435 tickets for seatbelt and car seat offences; 869 tickets for distracted driving, including 770 for using a mobile device.
