Close game in the third period – no problem say the Saskatoon Blades thus far in the 2022-23 W-H-L season.
For the second straight Friday, the Bridge City Bunch found a way to turn a scoreless tie through two periods into a victory. On this occasion, Tyler Parr (pictured) scored a pair of power play goals in the third period while Austin Elliott and the Blue and Gold held the Tigers at bay for a 2-1 triumph in Medicine Hat. The previous Friday, the Bridge City Bunch scored three unanswered third period goals in Calgary in a game that was goal-less through two periods. The win was the seventh-in-a-row for the the Blades and upped their overall record to 10-2-0. Saskatoon has out-scored opponents 13-3 in third periods thus far this season and are a perfect 10-0-0 when either leading or tied after 40 minutes. Austin Elliott stopped 28 of 29 shots, losing a bid for a second straight shutout with 7.8 seconds left in regulation time. The Blue and Gold have now won six consecutive head-to-head meetings with the Tigers, dating back to December, 2019, for their last setback. The Blades extended their franchise record to start a season without allowing more than three goals in a game to 12 games. Saskatoon completes a run of five straight games on the road in Alberta Saturday with their second visit in 10 days to Lethbridge.
