Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and the North Battleford Crime Reduction Team were conducting proactive patrols in the Prince Albert area when a Police Dog Services officer found an abandoned car on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band side of Little Red River. The vehicle had signs indicating it had been stolen so the officer began investigating. That’s when the officer heard a gunshot.

RCMP say the officer, who wasn’t injured, took cover and commanded the person responsible stop firing shots. The man told the officer to leave. This situation transpired on October 26th.

More officers arrived and a man was located at a nearby home and arrested. Twenty-four-year-old Donovan Charles of Pelican Lake First Nation is charged with discharging a firearm while being reckless, unsafe storage and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
