The Royal Canadian Legion has announced this year’s Silver Cross Mother is Candy Greff, mother of Byron Greff, the last Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan.
The Master Corporal with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based out of Edmonton was 28 years old when a suicide bomber ran his explosive-laden car into an armoured bus carrying troops.
Byron Greff was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan August 11, 1983, and died on October 29, 2011, while serving in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Candy Greff, of Lacombe, Alberta will have the honour of placing a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Remembrance Day.
