Saskatoon Police Service Superintendent Cam McBride says between now and the beginning of January there will be many stopchecks to remove impaired drivers from the road and bring awareness around planning a safe ride home.
However, even though this is something they have been doing for years, they still stop a lot of impaired drivers so, McBride says, there is still much work left to do.
Mike San Miguel of MADD Saskatoon says in 2019 the average was ten impaired federal charges and provincial short-term licence suspensions in Canada per hour.
Hundreds of Canadians are killed, and thousands are injured every year in crashes involving alcohol, cannabis or other drugs. Red ribbons and car decals will be available for free in stores.
MADD Saskatoon urges businesses who want to stock the ribbons to contact them
