The Saskatoon Fire Department was busy in the early hours of Monday morning with three separate calls for structure fires in three different areas of the city.

At 1:07 a.m., three fire engines, a ladder truck, one rescue unit and the battalion chief responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Main Street where they found visible flames at the rear exterior of a single family dwelling unit with the fire advancing to the roof. Utilities were shut down and crews had the fire under control at 1:42. All occupants were safely evacuated with no injuries. Cause of the fire is undetermined. It was said to have originated in dumpsters lining along the structure with damage estimated at 150-thousand dollars.

The second call came at 1:12 a.m. for a single family dwelling off Highway 219 in the community of Furdale. The caller said all occupants were evacuated safely and that the garage was on fire and advancing towards the house. Two fire engines, a brush truck, a tanker unit and battalion chief arrived to find a large two storey home with a triple attached garage fully involved with fire and flames coming from the roof. An additional fire engine, brush truck and tanker unit were brought in with the blaze brought under control at 3:34 a.m. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is investigating the fire, deemed to be in their jurisdiction.

Then, at 4:01 a.m., one fire engine was sent to the 800 block of Heritage Crescent for a report of trees and a storage shed on fire. Flames coming from the storage shed were pitting a single family dwelling unit at risk of catching fire as well. The storage shed housed the mechanical components and motor that operated the automatic gate for the housing complex with the fire brought under control at 4:30 a.m. The Fire Investigator considers the fire to be of a suspicious nature with the Saskatoon Police Service to follow up with the investigation.
