Premier Scott Moe will meet with key stakeholders in Washington D.C. this week with a special focus on energy and mining.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for Saskatchewan to strengthen our ties with our American neighbors,” Moe said prior to his departure. “Particularly in the areas of critical mineral development and processing, a field in which Saskatchewan is quickly becoming a world leader.”

Thirty-six of the fifty commodities on the United States Critical Minerals List essential for global economic security have occurrences in Saskatchewan. Critical minerals are used to manufacture batteries used in portable electronic devices, while rare earth elements are poised to play a significant role in future economic growth.

Saskatchewan is home to the first-of-its-kind minerals to metal rare earth processing facility in North America.

The Premier will return to Saskatchewan on Thursday.
