On, easily, the coldest night of the new winter season in Saskatoon, the Blades and Brandon Wheat Kings heated things up inside SaskTel Centre for 2,611 fans who braved the frigid conditions with a rousing W-H-L game that the Bridge City Bunch eventually prevailed in by a score of 5-4.
Conner Roulette’s (pictured) second goal of the game at 2:33 of the extra period gave the Blue and Gold the second point they appeared to have locked away several times, only to have the Wheaties battle back. Jake Chiasson’s tally off Nolan Ritchie’s cross-crease pass with 10.1 seconds left in the third period gave 10-15-3 Brandon a point in the standings in a game in which they trailed by two goals on three separate occasions. However, Roulette finished off Trevor Wong’s 2-on-1 pass to give the Blades their fifth straight win and 20th victory in just 25 games, the fastest the Saskatoon franchise has ever achieved 20 wins to start a season. Between overtime and four video reviews, the game took just over two-and-a-half hours to play. Both of Roulette’s goals required video confirmation. Justin Lies, Tyler Parr and Jayden Wiens also scored for the Bridge City Bunch, who earlier Tuesday were placed fifth in the weekly C-H-L Top 10 rankings. Roulette added two assists for his first four-point game in his W-H-L career while Lies added an assist to his goal and Wong chipped in two helpers. The 20-5-0 Blue and Gold, who out-shot the Wheat Kings 30-20, travel to Prince Albert Saturday. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne, Roulette and Parr plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
