The holidays are a time of bright lights, shiny paper, and ribbons and bows, which the City of Saskatoon is hoping will be recycled if possible.
Education and Environmental Performance Manager, Katie Burns, says, “Gifts, wrapping material, decorations, celebrations and festive feasts can all result in a significant amount of waste over the holiday season, so we have to find opportunities to cut down on that waste and effectively divert it from our landfill.”
To ensure you are minimizing holiday waste you can empty, rinse and flatten all containers and place those recyclables loose in your blue bin, as opposed to in boxes or bags.
-Reduce, re-use, and re-gift whatever you can.
-Skip the fancy wrapping and reuse paper, ribbons, bows and bags.
-And, get naughty or nice recycling advice from the Saskatoon Waste Wizard, which will tell you what, where and how you can recycle.
