More than 40 charges have been laid by Creighton RCMP, with an investigation that began after responding to a call last Friday evening. Police responded to a home in Denare Beach and it was determined a firearm safe with six guns were stolen during a break-in. The next day, officers responded to a report of a person with a firearm at a property in Denare Beach, but the person wasn’t found.
After further investigation into both incidents, Creighton RCMP executed a search warrant at a home with the assistance of neighbouring RCMP detachments and the Provincial Protective Services Branch. RCMP report seizing five rifles, two handguns, a number of magazines with ammunition, a quantity of psilocybin and illegal cannabis. Police say some of the guns recovered were the ones reported stolen last Friday, and others were reported stolen in previous break-ins in the area.
Two males, a man and a youth were arrested. The youth is charged with breaching a deferred custody order. Twenty-two year old Ethan Merasty of Denare Beach is facing 36 charges, most of them firearm related. After further investigation, 41 year old Robin Merasty of Denare Beach was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.
