This afternoon, Saskatoon City Council will be asked to authorize the purchase of three sites that are located near where the City wants to construct a proposed downtown arena and events centre.
The most expensive of the three sites is the former Saskatchewan Transportation Depot at 50-23rd Street East which comes with a price tag of $6.95 million.
39-23rd Street East which is the Midtown Professional Building has a final negotiated price of $5.2 million while 149 Pacific Avenue which is the Pacific Avenue Medical-Dental Building, is priced at $5.15 million.
If approved the total purchase price for those three properties would be $17.3 million plus there would be another $335,000 in commissions and closing costs.
The City of Saskatoon has stated that this purchase will not affect property taxes because the money would be taken from the Property Realized Reserve. That reserve is funded via land sales.
