SGI says most drivers at a Saskatoon Police check stop were sober and, on their way, quickly Thursday. Saskatoon Police Service Staff Sergeant Patrick Barbar took part in the check stop and says three vehicles were impounded because two drivers tested positive for cannabis and one driver drove despite having a suspended license and his passenger was ticketed for cannabis use in a car.

He has some advice for drivers during the holiday season, “Plan ahead, do not get behind the wheel if you’re drinking or using cannabis. Make sure you know ahead of time what you’re going to do. We’re going to be out here not only this Christmas season but we’re out here all year, every month, doing checkstops and that’s happening all across Saskatchewan.”

SGI points out that when a driver fails a roadside cannabis test, their licence is suspended for a minimum of three days and their vehicle is impounded for three days. The consequences are stricter for new drivers and repeat offenders.
