The City of Saskatoon says Saskatoon is digging out from at least 18 centimetres of snow.

An Alberta clipper moved in Christmas Eve. The City says crews worked through the night and today the city crews will be assisted by contractor crews as clean up continues.

The City is prioritizing the driving lanes on Circle Drive, expressways and major arterial roads, and will continue to do so as the snowfall continues into this afternoon. There are 23 graders, eight snowplows, 10 sanders and six sidewalk plows are working throughout Saskatoon Christmas morning.

Now that the snow has stopped, the City will declare a Snow Event which means crews will finish clearing Priority 1 streets like Circle Drive and streets with three or more lanes in each direction, such as Idylwyld Drive, 22nd Street and College Drive.

Within 48 hours of the snow ceasing and the Snow Event being declared, sidewalks adjacent to City facilities will also be cleared as well as Meewasin Trail, pathways along major routes, and walkways over bridges and overpasses.

Crews will then move onto Priority 2 double-lane streets like Clarence Avenue, McKercher Drive and Millar Avenue. These streets will take about 24 hours to complete.

Attention will then shift to key neighbourhood streets like Louise Avenue, Howell Avenue and Main Street.

When you see those blue and amber lights flashing, City officials ask that you slow down and remain at least 15 metres, or two-and-a-half car lengths behind snow removal equipment.  Be prepared to stop.
