Pierceland RCMP responded to a report of a shot fired from a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Officers were told the gunshot came from a silver 2010 GMC pickup truck with a crew cab, which had very bright headlights and had been tailgating, as it was heading south on an access road on Big Island Cree Territory. The license plate ends with WK, but it’s not known if it was a Saskatchewan plate or not.
Around 2:15 a.m., RCMP noticed a truck matching the description and attempted a traffic stop, but the truck left the community and headed west on Highway 55 toward the Alberta border. Officers report that as the pursuit continued, items were being thrown out the window. A short time later, the pursuit was terminated for safety, and they notified the Alberta RCMP.
RCMP believe there were four women in the truck who may be armed with firearms. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to contact the police and don’t approach it. Police continue to patrol the area, searching for the truck and gathering witness statements.
