Two defensive zone coverage breakdowns and a broken stick for the Blades resulted in Moose Jaw’s three goals as the Warriors downed Saskatoon 3-1 Tuesday night at Mosaic Place.
Eric Alarie was left alone in front of the Bridge City Bunch net to re-direct in Ryder Korczak’s pass and Josh Hoekstra was able to move in unchallenged from the blue line to pick his spot from 30 feet out to account for Moose Jaw’s first two goals before the mid-point of the game. After that, the referees decided to start calling penalties, which resulted in the Blue and Gold netting their lone goal on a one-timer by Egor Sidorov. But, that was all Connor Ungar would allow in a goaltender’s duo with the Blades’ Austin Elliott (pictured). The Warriors got their final tally on Brayden Yager’s empty-net tally after Saskatoon defenceman Aidan De La Gorgendiere broke his stick attempting a shot. The result moved 27-14-2 Moose Jaw to within a point of the 27-9-3 Bridge City Bunch in the East Division and Eastern Conference standings. The Blue and Gold do hold four games-in-hand and host the Warriors in the back-end of a home-and-home series Wednesday at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
