The polar vortex has been hovering over Siberia this month with reports of temperatures dipping down to as low as minus-60.
There is no polar vortex in Saskatchewan with above normal temperatures and fog for a good chunk of January. Unfortunately, that will change by the middle of next week and it will be much colder, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang who says it will lean towards the bitterly cold because it is coming straight from the arctic.
Between now and then—daytime highs will be in the low to mid-single digits.
Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says we may have to break out the shovel for the first time in a while with the possibility of sunshine on Saturday—and then about five to eight centimetres of snow in some areas on Sunday.
Lang says when colder temperatures arrive in the middle of next week, minus-30 will be a pretty good possibility.
