The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team which is investigating the officer involved shooting which happened in Prince Albert on Monday, is looking for witnesses or anyone who may have video of the incident to come forward.

Investigators with SIRT say around 10:40 Monday night, an officer with the Prince Albert Police Service who was in a marked police vehicle began an investigation in the 400 block of South Industrial Drive. During the encounter with a 34-year-old man, there was a short foot pursuit, then a confrontation and an officer shot their service pistol. EMS transported the man to hospital, where he was later declared dead. Investigators say a weapon was recovered from the scene.

Anyone with may have been in that area between 10:30 and 11 and who may have witnessed or have video is asked to contact SIRT at 306-933-6342. A final report will be issued within 90 days of the end of the investigation. Along with SIRT, a community liaison was appointed to the investigation into this shooting. SIRT’s mandate is to investigate alleged cases of serious injury, death, sexual assault or interpersonal violence arising from the actions of on and off-duty police officers, or while an individual is in police custody.
