Saskatoon Police say one woman has died after a house fire early Monday morning in the city’s Westview neighbourhood.

Around 1:30 a.m. patrol officers were called to the 2000 block of 37th Street West and when they arrived, they tried to find any residents in the home, but it was fully engulfed in flames.

En route to the fire, firefighters could see heavy smoke in the sky and when they arrived, smoke and flames had breached the front window.

As crews battled the blaze, one person was found deceased inside and firefighters continued to put out the visible flames.

The fire was brought under control at 2:51 a.m.

Saskatoon Police say the victim is a 79-year-old woman who was believed to be the only occupant in the home. Foul play isn’t suspected at this time, but the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Fire Department are investigating.

An update on the cause and origin of the fire is still pending.
